Zyxel has launched his DPPSK feature

Probably you know the feature PPSK (Aerohive/Extreme) or DPSK (Ruckus/Commscope). They were the first vendors that launched the possibility of multiple unique WiFi passwords for one WiFi network. Now also Zyxel introduced this feature in there Nebula cloud solution for there WiFi 6 access points. The biggest advantages of this feature are:

  • It’s compatible with every device (also IoT devices)
  • Segmentations with VLANs (example: Management = VLAN 20, ICT = VLAN 30,….)
  • You can create a WiFi password for every user. Very useful if someone leaves the company. You only need to delete his password.
  • A secure way for onboarding your visitors and employees
  • ….

If you want more details you can have a look at our other blog post “8 advantages of unique Pre Shared Keys“.

Configure DPPSK in Nebula

Now we are going to explain how you can configure and use the DPPSK’s. First of all, you need to have a Nebula Professional Pack and it is only available on the WiFi 6 access points. Other ap’s will not broadcast this WiFi network.

  1. Login to your Nebula portal
  2. Create an SSID (WiFi network) with DPPSK as an authentication method and fill in a very long complex backup key. Go to Access point –> Configure –> SSID Overview –> Wlan security = DPPSK
  3. To create DPPSK’s go to Side wide (or organization-wide) –> Cloud authentication –> Pick DPPSK as account type
  4. Now you can choose to create a single dppsk, create a batch of keys or use an excel file to create multiple keys
  5. After a few minutes, all the access points will know the created DPPSK’s and you can use them

Manage DPPSK’s

The most difficult part of the dppsk’s is the management part and to keep another database in sync. You need to create a new DPPSK when you want to onboard a new device or user. If someone leaves the company you need to delete the WiFi key otherwise he/she can still connect to the internet network. And how are you going to handle the keys out to the visitors or employees? For this part, Wiflex can be a solution!

Visitors WiFi with Wiflex

For visitors onboarding we have three solutions.

One Click: This application will run on a tablet. With one click on a button, we generate a secure and unique WiFi password for your guests. We also create a QR code so visitors only need to scan and they are onboarded safely. We also have the possibility to print the WiFi password so they can also onboard their laptop.

Visitor registration: This application will run on a tablet and visitors need to check-in. You define which fields they need to fill in. If you want we can print out a visitor badge. The employee will receive an email/sms that his visitor arrived. You always have an overview of the visitors in your building. Of course we also create an unique and safe WiFi password + qr code for the visitors.

Self registration: Users can self registrate them on an onboard ssid. You define which fields the visitors need to fill in. After registration we generate an unique and secure WiFi password so they can connect with a secure WiFi network.

Employee WiFi with Wiflex

Your employees can easily onboard themself on the WiFi by logging in with your Gsuite/Azure AD/ Office365 credentials. Every employee gets a unique and secure WiFi password linked to the right WiFi security group (VLAN, …) based on their Azure/Office365/Gsuite group. Their WiFi password is deleted when they leave the company. More information you can find here.
